The project
The project “Leveraging the microbial terroir of the vineyards of Ktima Pavlidis to highlight the distinctive quality characteristics of local wines – Pavlidis Terroir” (Project code: AMTHR7-0074127), funded by the Managing Authority of the Operational Program of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace under the measure Financial Support for Research, Development & Innovation Projects in the RIS3 priority sector, aims to study and showcase the microbial terroir of the vineyards of Ktima Pavlidis in order to develop higher value-added wines. The project is carried out by Ktima Pavlidis in collaboration with the Laboratories of Developmental Molecular Biology, Molecular Microbiology & Biotechnology and Molecular Regulation of the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics of Democritus University of Thrace.
The project includes:
- Targeted analysis of the microbiome, and the isolation and characterization of indigenous yeast strains and malolactic bacteria.
- Complete genome sequencing of the new indigenous microbial strains and their evaluation in winemaking.
- The creation of mixed winemaking cultures with the new indigenous strains.
- The development of a methodology/technology for the effective and efficient growth of the new winemaking cultures (cell biomass), suitable for producing high-quality wines.
- The production, using the new indigenous strains, of wines with local character at a pilot semi-industrial scale, and their evaluation by consumers.
About the company
The main goal of Ktima Pavlidis is the production of fine wines: offering consumers quality, recognizable products with refined sensory characteristics. To achieve our goals we have 600 stremmata (about 150 acres) of vineyards, with the prospect of systematic expansion, with the main aim of sourcing our production from our own vineyards so that the quality of the raw material is fully controlled. Our vineyards grow Greek and international varieties, both well known and less widespread, always striving for them to carry the distinctive character of the soils (terroir) that our ancestors, from antiquity to modern Greece, chose for planting their vines.
The vineyards of Ktima Pavlidis extend across the areas of Kokkinogeia and Perichora in Drama. Both areas have been known for their vineyards since antiquity, and remained so until the middle of the last century.
The winery, conceived and created by architect Panagiotis Chatzinas, is a modern, pioneering building of 3,000 sq.m. located on the northern side of the vineyard in Kokkinogeia. Its minimal aesthetic, with modern, clean lines, points directly to the philosophy of the New World.
The event is organized by #enaevents, a service of ena Development Consultants that designs and delivers corporate, educational, conference and informational events, in person, hybrid and remote, in the physical and digital world.
