With a large turnout of farmers as well as agronomists, consultants and others involved in the RDP 2014–2020 from Rhodope, Evros, Xanthi, Kavala and Drama, a workshop was held on Friday, November 3, at the Cris & Eve hotel, on the following topics:
- The Rural Development Program (RDP), presented by Mr. Nikolaos Manetas (Director of RDP Management at the Ministry of Rural Development and Food)
- The problem of Nitrate Pollution, presented by Dr. Theodoros Karyotis (Agronomist, Soil Scientist, Researcher)
- Measure 10.01.04 Reducing water pollution from agricultural use, presented by Charalampos Diamantis (Agronomist, Board member of P.O.S.E.G.)
The workshop was organized by the Association of Agricultural Supplies Trading Businesses.
The data and information the speakers shared at the workshop are very important not only for those present but also for the public, since we are all affected in one way or another by farming activities. The conclusion of the talks is that nitrate pollution and the incorrect use of pesticides must stop, so that the burden on the environment is reduced and, as a result, quality products are produced.
Mr. Manetas, the representative of the Ministry of Rural Development, also confirmed that the calls for the long-awaited Improvement Plans will open soon, along with the programs for Nitrate Reduction, Organic Farming and Livestock, Producer Organizations and Farm Advisors.
Staff of ena Development Consultants also attended the event, both to stay informed and to clarify the issues that will concern, in the near term, everyone who wants to grow in the primary sector and needs advisory services to finance their investment plans, through grants where possible.
